2025 kg CO2e Emissions Based on Sea Container Transport (Scope 3 standard)

Hansol Logistics has proactively adopted the GLEC (Global Logistics Emissions Council) framework, a global logistics carbon calculation standard, to objectively and transparently calculate and manage Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions generated during sea container transport.

Category Import Export Remarks
Total Annual Volume 26,471 TEU 74,316 TEU Exports are approx. 2.8 times higher
Total Annual Emissions Approx. 11.82M kg CO2e Approx. 34.84M kg CO2e Based on Scope 3
Highest Emissions (Month) May (Approx. 1.37M kg) Feb (Approx. 2.82M kg)
Highest Volume (Month) Dec (2,958 TEU) Mar (5,913 TEU) Based on 2025 data
Lowest Emissions (Month) Sep (Approx. 0.71M kg) Aug (Approx. 1.53M kg)
Region with Highest Emissions North America (Approx. 4.86M kg) North America (Approx. 12.40M kg) Impact of long-distance routes
Region with Highest Volume China (11,836 TEU) China (20,224 TEU) High proportion of short-distance routes

[GLEC Framework v3.1 (2024) Carbon Calculation Methodology and Basis]

  1. Reason for adopting GLEC Framework: "As a global logistics carbon calculation standard fully compatible with the ISO 14083:2023 international standard, it is used to ensure data reliability and objective carbon footprint verification between global shipping companies and shippers."
  2. Measurement Standard (WTW CO2e): "Applies the Well-to-Wake (WTW) carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), which includes the entire process from fuel production to consumption, not just Tank-to-Wake (TTW) emissions."
  3. Load Factor: "Calculated based on the container shipping industry's average load factor of 70%, realistically reflecting actual transport environments."
  4. Distance Correction (+15% Conversion): "According to the GLEC guidelines, the Emission Factor (EF) applied in this report already includes a 15% surcharge to reflect actual sailing distances (surcharge not applied in the distance formula to prevent double counting)."
  5. Calculation Method and Figure Updates: "All figures are calculated step-by-step according to the CCWG (Clean Cargo Working Group) methodology and conservatively adjusted compared to the Clean Cargo 2022 report by reflecting the latest North American emission factors."
  6. Calculation Formula: "Emissions (kg CO2e) = [TEU x (Distance NM x 1.852) x GLEC EF (gCO2e/TEU-km)] ÷ 1,000"
  7. List of Applied Emission Factors (EF) by Route (Based on WTW Dry Container):
    • Intra NE Asia: 114.9 (Korea/China/Japan intra-regional routes)
    • Asia to North America WC: 64.8 (Asia-North America West Coast (LAX, LGB, etc.))
    • Asia to North America EC: 61.7 (Asia-North America East Coast/Gulf)
    • Asia to North Europe: 44.1 (Asia-North Europe Direct and Suez routes)
    • Asia to Oceania: 97 (Bound for Australia/New Zealand)
  8. Cargo Weight Assumption: "Reflects Average Cargo (10 Tonnes) per TEU based on GLEC Table 3"

* This calculation was precisely made in accordance with the GLEC v3.1 (2024) guidelines.

Environmental Management Evaluation of Qualified Contractors

As a strategic approach to thoroughly implement and evaluate safety and health management to prevent disasters at contractors from the early stages of work, Hansol Logistics conducts qualified contractor evaluations by setting 'maintenance of the environmental management system' as a major evaluation factor.
Internal environmental management evaluations are conducted according to specific detailed criteria. We review the appropriateness of environmental goals, understanding of environmental policies and goals, appropriate delegation of responsibility and authority, faithfulness of environment-related training, implementation of compliance evaluations for environment-related categories, employees' level of understanding of these categories, and the appropriateness of monitoring environmental goals.

Evaluation Items
☑ Are environmental goals appropriately established?
☑ Are environmental policies and goals appropriately understood?
☑ Are responsibilities delegated to employees and relevant personnel regarding the environment?
☑ Is environment-related training being conducted properly?
☑ Are compliance evaluations conducted for environment-related categories applicable to each department?
☑ Are employees familiar with the environment-related categories applicable to their departments?
☑ Are environmental goals being properly monitored?
